newcleo is a clean and safe nuclear technology company. Privately funded and headquartered in London, UK, newcleo was launched in 2021 to be a disruptor in the field of nuclear energy. Its mission is to generate safe, clean, economic and inexhaustible energy for the world, through a radically innovative combination of existing, accessible technologies.

newcleo is building the next generation system with the goals to:

  1. eliminate the need for geological repositories by using a fast neutron flux avoiding the production of long life radioactive elements;
  2. accelerate the development of new fuel cycles, including MOX (Mixed Pu-U Oxides) and eventually thorium, that provide clean, safe and inexhaustible energy from nuclei and the opportunity to burn the long-lived nuclear waste produced by the old generation of nuclear reactors;
  3. ultimately develop an Accelerator Driven System (ADS), based on the intrinsically safe coupling of a particle accelerator and a sub-critical reactor.

With visionary co-founders, newcleo brings together an international team of senior engineers with deep knowledge of nuclear energy and new recruits with a fresh mindset, working to develop designs based on innovative Lead-cooled Fast Reactors (LFRs). These LFRs will meet the commercial demand for small terrestrial waste-to-energy reactors.

In the UK, newcleo’s immediate focus is on delivering a prototype 30MWe LFR by 2030 followed by an initial battery of 4-6 x 200MWe reactors with deployment in the early 2030s. We are building our team to meet this challenging and exciting objective.

HR Manager

Job Description

You will join as a critical member of the small but rapidly growing HR department. A figure of support and reliability, you will be responsible for a wide range of HR activities. You will support the HR Manager and will have the main accountability for building the foundations for the full employee life cycle, from recruitment through to offboarding. You will become a trusted partner for senior leadership and management when advising on employee relations and performance management as well as supporting the Recruitment Manager on recruitment efforts. You will be a motivated, hardworking and enthusiastic individual with the right attitude and willingness required for a rapidly growing start-up. The role will be located and based at newcleo’s NW England site (Manchester/Warrington or any such place as directed close to Site) the successful candidate will need to be flexible with travelling to and from newcleo GenCo (NW England) and newcleo Ltd (London base location) office sites.

Main Activities

  • Offering recruitment assistance where required and as directed by the Recruitment Manager
  • Implementing, administering, and improving employee onboarding process
  • Implementing, administering, and improving newcleo training programme and supporting with suggested training management software to support
  • Implementing, administering, and improving HR policies and procedures in partnership with HR Manager
  • Main point of contact for all employee relation cases, including but not limited to internal investigations, disciplinaries, performance management, capability and other HR procedures
  • Supporting in the building/advise on SAP:SucessFactor modules (compensation and benefits, time tracking, onboarding modules etc.)
  • Supporting the HR Manager in building the organisations culture and developing programs to improve employee experience within the organisation and workplace
  • Supporting the HR Manager in implementing, administering, and improving employee benefits pack
  • Creating regular reports and presentations on HR metrics
  • Supporting the HR Manager with any other tasks and duties as delegated

Experience / Professional requirements

  • This will be a fast-paced role and you will be expected to work as a reliable and trustworthy resource for the HR Manager, whilst possessing the eagerness to develop your HR career and take on additional tasks as and when required
  • You must have exceptional administrative skills and experience.
  •  Ideally, you will have experience working in a rapidly growing start-up organisation, supporting with high volumes of recruitment and HR activities
  • You must have experience of supporting with setting up the HR function within a start-up environment
  • You will ideally have a degree and Masters in HR, Business or related subjects • Ideally you will have experience in the energy sector / similar highly regulated industry
  • Exceptional written and spoken English skills with ability to adapt communication skills to diverse cultures and nationalities
  •  Strong accuracy and attention to detail, with a focus on delivery and excellent task completion • A dependable and trustworthy individual capable of completing tasks with minimal supervision
  •  Outgoing and hardworking, passionate about producing best quality results
  • A keen problem solver with ability to work with ambiguity and use own initiative
  • Passionate about climate change / decarbonisation
  • A quick learner with ability to form strong and trusted relationships with multinational colleagues
